Mawaru Penguindrum
Mawaru Penguindrum: Dissonance from the New World
7How cruel fate is, for each character almost seems to be bound and trapped by past memories, which now haunt them in the present. And in last week’s episode, we explore some of Kanba’s troubles, which stem from his past relationships. The first half (or three-quarters) of the episode seem to drag on for quite a bit, but it’s the last part we look at that becomes interesting. Like Himari, Kanba also dives right into the recesses of his psyche, but we’ve covered bits and pieces of psychology already. Instead, we turn to the wonders of Antonin Dvovak’s 9th symphony.
The door to Himari’s psyche
25Usually when I pass out a Mawaru post, I hesitate and take quite a while to make the actual post, which was why this post was very delayed. I’m sorry. But along with the post comes with some research and insight into the episodes, which we shall explore today.
One may think that all perspectives have been explored in episode 9 of Mawaru Penguindrum, but I beg to differ, as there is always a single point to expand from. And finally, the psychology classes I have taken can prove their worth.
The story starts of with a da capo, returning to the beginning of the series, instead now we see Himari’s viewpoint. Nothing really interesting seen here (unless the boy with the hat becomes part of the story as well), and that she disappears due to chasing the penguins.
And then, we descend down to the depths of Himari’s mind.
Fates, Diaries and Penguindrums
4After seeing Yi’s post on Listless Ink, I decided to try watching Mawaru Penguindrum. Even though those cute penguins tempted me a bit to watch it in the beginning, I became more interested in its underlying themes. Of course, who can forget Survival Strategy (Seizon Senryakuuuuuuu!). Not to mention that this show has some of the most random scenes I’ve ever seen. In a good way. And this show is supposedly only a comedy?!
