Bakemonogatari 5 – A shell of her former self
This episode was as epic as Senjougahara smiling. Everything about our lost Mayoi is finally revealed in the last episode of the Mayoi arc.
Inb4 obligatory episode for Shin.

Analysis:
So in this episode, the first part consists of another conversation-later-turned-argument with Mayoi and Araragi, as usual. Apparently we learn that there’s a “first touch” as opposed to a “first kiss” being more important, as well as Mayoi being more developed than her classmates but utterly fails at tongue twisting.
The interesting part is when Senjougahara walks in and reveals everything about Mayoi and what she really is. This is where you get mindblown. Mayoi was actually a wandering spirit, wandering for 10 years to find her mother that she couldn’t recognize any more. Her parents got into a fight and she started to forget what she looked like, so she embarked on a journey to find her again. However, while she was crossing the road, a rampant car struck her even though the “walk” sign was on. Such a poor fate…and still she tries to find her home, although she is now a shell of her former self. Loved Panther’s post on how they used perspectives to show that Senjougahara couldn’t see her, while Araragi did. Senjougahara didn’t admit it because she didn’t want to think she lost it, right after she got cured of the crab. It seems that Mayoi has the ability of getting everyone lost and to draw people like Araragi in, since he didn’t want to go home. Senjougahara finally shows Araragi where Mayoi lived once before, thanks to Oshino’s advice, and we have a ;_; scene where she finally returns back to her true home. Senjougahara x Araragi is also taking a step forward. Senjougahara fascination.
And thus the Mayoi arc brings to a close. Starting to like this anime back again after this episode and how well they presented it. Watch out for a wandering Mayoi though!
Somehow twintailed tsunderes lolis always manage to get me.

I’m glad Mayoi’s sticking around. A harem’s not the same without a sharp-tongued loli.

Just finished. This episode (and the closing arc) was plenty to keep my personal moment for the series through to the end, regardless of what happens from here out. ^^
That loli is dangerous! XD

“The Sixth Sense” plot twist is quite interesting, and even if Mayoi’s ‘graduation’ is rather predictable, it’ll be interesting to wonder what her role in the narrative will be.

Senjougahara fascination indeed.
How straightforward of her.

@RP: Harems must have tsunderes.
@RyanA: Indeed she is. Good finish to a good arc.
@ghostlightning: Maybe because she graduated and possibly rid her curse of the snail, she’s be another information database, eg. helps find stuff, like Oshino.
@Reltair: It’s her personality and I love it.

People were trying to troll me by spoiling me about Mayoi being a ghost, not realizing I’d hit it regardless.

And an impressive feat it is.

Makes you wonder why noone has been angry at the slow pace of this arc… in comparison to Endless Eight I mean.
August 3, 2009 - 4:44 pm
Because it’s probably new and not repeating =3=

Well. They do the same thing. It´s similar events that happen but with slight changes so yeah, they are repeating stuff. Not to the same degree as KyoAni sure but they are still repeating stuff.
