A few reasons why Umi Monogatari scares the shit out of me and why I won’t really follow through with the series. More serious reasons below.
1. The main character is seriously scary. Like, she’s literally evil. Brimming with madness. Candidate of becoming an Espada.
Looks just like shunpo.

2. Did I really need that fanservice?
3. The OP and background music is so calming that it gives me the chills when something suddenly happens. You can nonchalantly kill someone when this music plays and no one will see it coming.
4. And when two random people dressed up in those outfits sudenly pop up from the sea, wouldn’t you have a better reaction than that?
5. The ending was scary. I mean, oops I opened the coff- SMOKE AND LIGHTNING EMERGES!
6. A bunch of stuff gets added randomly you won’t even know what hit you.

7. Ok, but seriously, the plot isn’t that good. I mean, romance, friendship, supernatural, and comedy all mixed up into one anime? Pick a genre and stick with it! I have a feeling it won’t be long before the anime starts lacking in one of these qualities…plus, the first episode was pretty much about…a girl and her ring. Marin and Urin are good girls and pick it up to give it back to her (it’s a ring. it’s expensive.), but Kanon doesn’t want it back. Good works don’t pay off in this story. I’ll give this show at least one more episode to redeem itself for me.
I can see that you don’t like mahou shoujo that much. Cause really, this is like a calmer version of a mahou shoujo. I actually like this anime though. First off, the main character is not Kanon, it’s Marin, the dense ocean girl who got the fanservice attention. Second off, Kanon’s scaryness is what makes her unique and Kanon. The ending wasn’t that scary. Do you really think that that’s scary? Seriously man. At least you’re giving it one more episode.
The rest of you’re reasons I do agree, yet I’m drawn to it for some reason. WTF up with the fan service. I personally think that it’s for perverted guys out there probably watching it because their sister’s forced them(I used to force my guy neighbor to watch Totally Spies with me I have to shamefully admit). The opening and ending were too calming for my tastes. But then again, I like openings and endings that rock out. Those OP and ED and background music reminded me too much of Fruits Basket. I still watch it even though I don’t like those things. Maybe cause it’s cause I haven’t watched an anime in forever. Who knows?

But really, I found this anime to be enjoyable. It gives off the same vibes as SoraKake for me (as in “this seems pretty good, but I don’t know why,” except SoraKake is obviously much, much better).

Lol, it took me a while to even get to the first episode. Didn’t really pay much attention throughout the whole episode to be honest, and I was exaggerating on the scary part too. Sorry.
I guess we have the same latter tastes at the end too; the fanservice was just added in for no reason. Although I have been looking for some calm anime music for a while. Pretty smooth OP/ED if you want to relax. @_@

Nice, yea I was supposed to watch the raw last week, but kinda escaped my interests. Gaaao. I’ll probably watch a couple since the production quality looks nice.
