Summary:

So after we got what I considered a character intro episode, we now get the requisite, let’s explain everything episode.  It starts with Arashi finding her way to the restaurant from the first episode, and getting a job there.  Hajime finds his way to said restaurant and meets Arashi for the first time.  The big guy from the first episode comes in looking for Arashi, and in the ruckus that ensues Arashi touches Hajime and they connect.  Arashi takes him back in time with the way the town looked like when she was alive which was some time ago.

Arashi moves in with Hajime, which of course is ecchi grandpa has no trouble with.  Arashi goes back to work to find she’s been fired because the big guy with the sunglasses is still snooping around for her.  The master and Hajime have a dice battle, to which Hajime loses.  Arashi speaks of a treasure at the café which peaks the master’s interest and she re-hires her.

Impressions:

It’s good to know what’s going on.  This episode felt more SHAFTy than the last, but still seems rather tame.  I still like the character designs, and enjoy the little references that they throw in.   This episode had a visit from Harima and Tenma from School Rumble in the Café.  We also had an artistic painting of Itoshiki-sensei in several backgrounds.  Next episode we get introduced to Kaya, which I’m sure suffers from the same issue that Arashi does as well.

It’s interesting they would take a first episode that way, which is normally seen with lengthier series (I recall Gintama did a double episode premier and ep3 was the real start… but gintama is 150+episodes).

I wonder if SHAFT is just starting all these projects to have various stories to select from when wanting to do a second seasons.
