Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – 01
Screencaps coming soon.
OP Sequence: 「again」 by YUI
I was kinda caught off guard by the song. I expected a song more along the lines of Porno Grafitti – Melissa, but then again, I think I’m gonna like this one. It has a catchy feel to it. The animation’s rather interesting. Couple of lip-synced clips too, which was cool. I was not able to pick out any scenes that directly referenced things iconic to either the first anime or the manga.
Summary:
Edward and Alphonse Elric, though meaning to head for the city of Lior, are tasked by Furer Bradley to take out Isaac McDougall, a renegade state alchemist known as the Ice Alchemist. Though they are able to capture him, he escapes shortly after. Later, while meeting with Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye, Maes Hughes makes an entrance, inviting the Elric brothers to spend the night with his family. Meanwhile, McDougall makes an appearance in Central Prison in attempt to ally with Kimblee, the Crimson Alchemist. The following day, McDougall makes a reappearance, reaking havoc in Central and attempting to make more trasmutation circles all over the city. McDougall is confronted by Strong Arm Alchemist Alex Armstrong (Say that 10 mines fast, why don’t ya?) and Roy Mustang. The Elric brothers arrive at the scene again for some unfinished business, but are stopped as McDougall activates the transmutation circles. Engulfing Central in walls of ice, McDougall heads for the Command Headquarters; his target – Furer Bradley. A fight ensues on top of his ice walls as the Elric brothers catch up. McDougall soon discoveres the secret behind the Elric brothers: Alphonse lost his entire body and Elric lost his right arm and left leg in an attempt to perform human transmutation. Enraged, the brothers strike McDougall down, but are caught off guard when he freezes his own blood and attacks Ed. Making his way to the Furer, McDougall transmutes more of his blood into a spear, and assaults the Furer, but is easily dispatched by Furer Bradley’s lightning-fast swordsmanship. Armstrong and Mustang’s timely action repairs the damage caused by McDougall. Recovering in the main headquarters, Ed and Al are graced with the precence of Alex Armstrong, who proceeds to take off his shirt and shows off his muscles. In a secluded building, Lust remarks at McDougall’s failure as Gluttony does what he does best – eat.
ED Sequence: 「嘘 」 (Uso) by SID
I like this ED. A LOT. The cartoon caricatures of all the characters are an awesome touch, and I really had a lot of fun watching it.
Thoughts:
Okay, so this is FMA: Brotherhood. First off, I’d like to say I was quite surprised. I was expecting the famous first encounter at Lior. Instead, a completely new State Alchemist was introduced, as well as a very early hint towards the bigger picture that is Amestris. From time to time, curiously, I did catch glimpses of what probably might be Father from the manga. As well, I really liked that many of the character quirks were shown straight off the bat. That feeling of familiarity was very much welcome as Ed overreacts about his height, Al is mistakenly identified as the Fullmetal Alchemist, Maes Hughes boasts about his family (btw, I almost slammed my head down on my desk because seeing Hughes animated again and knowing his inevitable fate was rather depressing </overreacting>. Thank God I didn’t slam my head, otherwise I would have ruined my new tablet.), and Armstrong is.. well… being himself! Ah yeah, and there was a “Mustang in the rain” joke as well. High-larious. Oh, and another little tidbit: Furer Bradley referenced his son, so I’m willing to think there will be a lot more manga elements alongside some of the interesting new additions. Stay tuned for next week, as the next episode is a recap of the Elric bros’ past, just like the first anime and the manga. Overall, I think this is a really interesting retelling of the FMA story and I can’t wait to see more.
Oh, ho ho, yes. Ever since they cast Shinichiro Miki as Roy Mustang, I’ve been coming up with enough Lockon Stratos jokes to fill an entire high school physics textbook. Just so you all know what to look forward to! ;D
I love Fullmetal Alchemist.
That’s it for now, I’ve got myself a very busy next few days, so I’ll edit this one with screencaps later on. I’ll probably have a batch of reviews done once more episodes of the Anime I’m blogging are out.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun 03 – My waifu’s new eyebrows

Its been a long standing tradition for JC Staff to fill up the first 90% of a series with nothing useful, only to move on to some important plot points with a small handful of episodes remaining. Case in point, Zero no Tsukaima, Shakugan no Shana, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I still love JC [...]
Kobato 2: Bite-sized Happiness

Insert badly timed and referenced sexual innuendo here to ruin the moment.
Summary: Kobato gets her first candy to fill the bottle. Well, I’d say star bit, but whatever the lady says.
Thoughts: If only being nice can make wishes come true! At least I was hoping for common sense when it comes to dealing with people, [...]
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun 01 – I am Level 0

When I watched the first episode of A Certain Magical Index (To Aru Majutsu no Index) Misaka was already on my “whao! that’s super cool” list. Naturally, a side story just about her would have me interested. While I do not make fanatical claims like Fangzhao over there, I must agree that the first episode [...]

Still in the middle of watching everything and writing an impressions post up, but I can tell you that Black Rock Shooter’s pilot episode…was awesome. Screencaps of win quality enclosed.
Can’t wait for the episodes coming out in Spring. The animation gets a tad worse at times as well as giving a whole edgey/unfinalized feeling [...]

Ha ha ha. Here we go again.
Preview:
Summary: Start of a new arc. Everything is reset.
Analysis: Hmm, random new OP appearance in Beatrice’s part. Interesting. The second arc is the part where it really gets good, I’m hoping, rather than all the random killings and everyone dies -> bad end. It’s also quite sad to see [...]
Sora no Manimani 4: Everything was so beautiful…

Everything was so beautiful and touching…except the damn confession. I somehow saw that coming.
Can I:
Smack her already?
Get rid of her for Hime-chan already?
Or suck up her ridiculous attitude.
Tiredness from summer school and killer headache prevents me from saying anything besides the point. More beautiful stargazing, romantic scenes, and funny ones at that. Her attitude is [...]
Bakemonogatari 5 – A shell of her former self

This episode was as epic as Senjougahara smiling. Everything about our lost Mayoi is finally revealed in the last episode of the Mayoi arc.
Inb4 obligatory episode for Shin.
Preview:
Analysis:
So in this episode, the first part consists of another conversation-later-turned-argument with Mayoi and Araragi, as usual. Apparently we learn that there’s a “first touch” as opposed [...]
Umineko 5 – I knew I needed the VN. Why?

Objection! Hold it! Take that!
Because Battler (and I) will not go into that gentle night. Rage, raeg rage against the dying of the light.
Thoughts?
Actually, I don’t have much. I don’t get it. So in this episode, the killer managed to kill off everyone except Battler, and apparently it’s still blamed on Beatrice, when she actually [...]

Holy crap, Gendai Mahou fanart? FINALLY!
That’s right, you didn’t read it wrong.
A snail shooting magicial glomping tsundere trap.
A big cram post, in order to facilitate an actual Fall 2009 impression post this time. Pardon.
In other words, catching up on Bakemonogatari (episode 4), Canaan (episode 4), Gendai Mahou (episode 3), Sora no Manimani (episode 3), Princess [...]

And that’s where you draw the line folks.
Can this trap get any more stupid.
Apparently being a siscon makes you rich. I don’t mind being one if that happens.
Mio-tan sure is tempting.
And Setsuna and really-long-name-girl (Kuchinashi), the girls from the wad-blowing Needless ED finally appear. Looks like they weren’t just for fanservice after all.
Blade is such [...]

can’t wait to see more.
Exactly! I’m encouraged to write a post on the essence surrounding this remake, since it was so recent, but just before animeblogging really stuck. It’s like we get a second chance!

Machoman is macho. *laughs*
April 10, 2009 - 10:12 pm
I was kind of disappointed that Brotherhood wasn’t dubbed, so I’ll guess I have to wait a few years until they get around to doing so. In the meantime, I’ll go ahead and finish watching the first FMA.

@Danielle
I guess they’re trying to relate more to the manga this time. I’m trying to get back into the series myself, haven’t watched it in quite a while ^_^’
